Eva Pendleton, LMT, manager, integrative health, Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone, discusses the evidence supporting the use of integrative therapies during a patient’s cancer treatment.

Pendleton says in the past few years, high quality studies have been published showing that massage can reduce pain and anxiety in patients with cancer. Other studies have shown that acupuncture can help reduce nausea.

There is also new evidence suggesting that yoga can significantly improve sleep quality, which is a major issue for cancer patients, Pendleton says. At the Perlmutter Cancer Center, researchers are conducting their own research on integrative therapies in order to contribute to this growing body of knowledge.
