Cartwright says researchers are looking at the genomics to try to identify latent predictors of patients who are at greater risk for pain. Researchers know that patients may experience the same type of pain, but not to the same degree.
Researchers at NYU are trying to learn more about latent predictors so that physicians and nurses can be better prepared, Cartwright says. Researchers are also looking into the impact that integrated health practices, such as yoga and exercise, have on pain management.
