Richard Carvajal on Multidisciplinary Approach to Managing Immunotherapy Toxicities

By Richard Carvajal, MD
PUBLISHED THURSDAY, JANUARY 1, 1970

Richard Carvajal, MD, Columbia University Medical Center, discusses the importance of a multidisciplinary approach when monitoring patients for immunotherapy toxicities.

Nursing staff are vital when it comes to follow-up with patients on immunotherapy treatments. Daily phone calls may even be necessary to ensure that patients are monitored as needed. For combination immunotherapy treatments, Carvajal suggests using the wisdom seen in the single agents. Staff must be hypervigilant and there must be standards developed for follow-up and management of these patients.
